SBL620 : Immunobiology

Lecture: Introduction to Immunobiology: cells and organs of the immune system; Innate immunity and inflammatory responses: pattern recognition receptors - Toll like receptors, phagocytic cells such as macrophages and neutrophils, inflammatory cytokines, complement system and innate immunity; Antigen- antibody: structure recognition, specificity; The adaptive immune response: B cell and T cell receptor – structure, gene re-arrangements, antigen presenting cells, Major histocompatibility complex and co-stimulatory molecules; Lymphocytes development and activation; Vaccines and immunity: principles and emerging concepts, safety, herd immunity; Hypersensitivity and autoimmunity, Acquired immune deficiency syndrome; Current Topics in Immunobiology: viral immune evasion strategy, cancer neo-antigens, techniques and methodologies – CAR-T cells. Laboratory: Different types of antigen: antibody interaction like agglutination test; direct, indirect and sandwich ELISAs; immunoprecipitation and Western blotting using specific antibodies; quantitative analysis of cytokine production by flow cytometry; visualization of phagocytosis.
