General Championship
The General Championship (commonly abbreviated GC) is the annual inter-hostel sports competition at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Conducted by the Board of Sports Activities (BSA), the GC pits all undergraduate hostels against one another across thirteen sports over the course of the spring semester. The hostel that accumulates the highest aggregate score is awarded the General Championship trophy and the unofficial title of "best hostel" for the year.
Format
The competition runs through the second (spring) semester. Hostels field teams in each of the thirteen BSA-recognised sports, including:
- Cricket
- Football
- Hockey
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Badminton
- Lawn Tennis
- Table Tennis
- Squash
- Athletics
- Aquatics
- Weightlifting
- Chess
Each fixture awards points based on finishing position; the hostel with the highest total at the end of the season wins the trophy. A Freshers' General Championship (FGC) is held in the first semester to introduce first-year students to inter-hostel sport and to scout players for the main GC.
