Student Bodies

[edit]

The student governance at IIT Delhi is organized through a set of autonomous boards and councils, collectively known as the Student Bodies. These operate under the overarching Student Affairs Council (SAC) and are responsible for managing the cultural, academic, sporting, welfare, media, and residential aspects of student life. Each body is led by a General Secretary (GSec) elected by the student community and supported by a team of coordinators and executives.

Student Affairs Council (SAC)

[edit]

The Student Affairs Council (SAC) is the apex student body at IIT Delhi. It serves as the umbrella organization under which all other student boards operate. SAC is responsible for the overall coordination of student activities, representing student interests to the institute administration, and ensuring that every student's voice is heard. SAC organizes placement preparation initiatives like the Suit Camp and the Call a Mentor program, and leads campus-wide wellness campaigns including World Mental Health Day activities.

Board of Recreational and Creative Activities (BRCA)

[edit]

BRCA manages all cultural clubs and creative activities at IIT Delhi. Under its umbrella fall the Music Club (Cadence), Dance Club, V-Defyn, Ankahi (Dramatics Society), Debating Club (DebSoc), LitClub, Hindi Samiti, Azure (Fine Arts Society), Quizzing Club, SPIC MACAY, and Indradhanu. BRCA organizes Rendezvous, the annual cultural festival featuring performances, competitions, and celebrity nights. It also hosts the Inter IIT Cultural Meet (IICM) and the annual BRCA Night showcasing all its clubs.

Co-curricular and Academic Interaction Council (CAIC)

[edit]

CAIC oversees all technical clubs and department societies. This includes DevClub, ANCC, ARIES, Robotics Club, AeroClub, Axlr8r Formula Racing, Infinity Hyperloop, iGEM, BlocSoc, and 13 department societies. CAIC organizes Tryst, the annual technical festival, and hosts research showcases like Anveshan and NavaDhi. It also facilitates industry interactions through guest lectures and alumni sessions.

Board of Sports Activities (BSA)

[edit]

BSA coordinates all sporting activities across campus, including inter-hostel tournaments, inter-IIT sports meets, and fitness programs. BSA manages the sports facilities at the Student Activity Centre (SAC building), including badminton courts, swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis courts, and athletic fields. It also oversees the Indoor Sports Club and Wellness Club.

Board of Student Publications (BSP)

[edit]

BSP is the journalistic and creative publishing body of IIT Delhi. It produces campus newspapers, magazines, and online media content. BSP also operates the Photography & Films Club (PFC) and IITD OnAir. Through its publications, BSP covers campus events, interviews student leaders, and provides investigative reporting on institutional issues.

Board of Student Welfare (BSW)

[edit]

BSW focuses on student wellbeing through counselling, mentorship, and support services. BSW organizes drama therapy programs, music and meditation sessions, and the freshers' orientation events. It runs a confidential vent space for students and coordinates professional counselling services. BSW also operates the Student Mentorship Program (SMP) and collaborates with NSS for community service initiatives.

Board of Hostel Management (BHM)

[edit]

BHM oversees hostel administration, mess operations, and residential life across IIT Delhi's 18 hostels. BHM manages mess committees, organizes hostel cultural events like House Day, and coordinates maintenance and facilities. Its flagship event is BHM Night, a campus-wide celebration of hostel culture. BHM also organizes STIC-D (Student-Teacher Interaction Dinners) across hostels and manages festive celebrations like Lohri and Diwali.

Elections

[edit]

Student body elections at IIT Delhi are held annually. The General Secretary of each board is elected through a campus-wide democratic process. Each GSec is supported by Deputy General Secretaries (DGSecs) and a team of coordinators and executives who manage day-to-day operations. The election process is overseen by the institute administration to ensure fairness and transparency.
