== Computing SPI and CGPA ==

The '''Semester Performance Index (SPI)''' for a given semester is calculated as:

<nowiki>SPI = Σ(Ci × Gi) / Σ(Ci)</nowiki>

where ''C<sub>i</sub>'' is the credit for course ''i'' and ''G<sub>i</sub>'' is the grade point earned.

The '''Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)''' is computed over all semesters using the same formula applied cumulatively. If a course is repeated, only the latest grade is counted.

== Academic Standing ==

== Relative Grading ==

Most courses at IIT Delhi use '''relative grading''', where grades are assigned based on the overall class performance distribution. The instructor determines the grade boundaries using the class mean and standard deviation as guidelines. Some courses, particularly lab-based or project-based courses, may use absolute grading.
